Thankful For The Gluten Free Menu, Even If It Is A Conspicuous Binder

A Dreaded Gluten Free Menu Binder!, January 1, 2014

After explaining the different types of gluten free menus you can run across in the P.F. Chang’s post, I decided to show you an example of one that makes me a little uneasy, the colossal binder.  I went in this afternoon for lunch expecting it, but luckily, the establishment updated a little.  I still got a binder but it was much smaller, less than half the thickness of their original version.  Still awkward but not nearly as bad.  Whether the big one or not, it is still better than none!  A quick applause for the fact that the Double Wide Grill gluten free menu exists!  Many local restaurants (and chains, sadly enough) don’t bother at all.

Oddly, the service got even better at that point (I’m typically satisfied with them just having a menu).  When my friendly, brunette waitress saw that I had the special menu, she pointed out that she was gluten intolerant as well!  It is always comforting to have someone waiting on you that knows what can happen.  They seem extra diligent due to their own experiences, and honestly, I probably would be too.  She let me know that she really liked the bread there and decided that it was worth looking into while I perused the options.  I do love a good gluten free bread!  So now we can add that to the list of pros, they have it!

Smiling Because It Is A SANDWICH, January 1, 2014

I come across gf buns occasionally at places, most of which aren’t very good to begin with, but bread is far less common.  I’m guessing that it is because loaves of bread don’t freeze or defrost as well as buns?  Just a thought.  I do know that most places freeze these products though because they are expensive and rarely ordered.  If you have an answer to why bread is less common, please let me know.  Maybe suppliers don’t offer it as readily?  Anyway, for that reason I can normally get burgers on buns but not necessarily a sandwich.  A real sandwich, with two slices of bread and stuff inside.  For this reason, I took advantage of this chance and it made me smile.  It is the simple things, like a BLT with gluten free bread and creamy cherry coleslaw that can make my day…nope…my week…
